Catherine Labonté

Cartoons were always part of my life. As a child I was fascinated by their simplicity and antics. Originally I began by copying popular cartoons to entertain my friends. Eventually I began creating my own characters, in particular, cats. I could have pursued illustration but I wanted to give three dimensionality to my characters. In order to do this it may have been a more practical choice to use a different medium, but none attracted me more than glass. I use glass because of the simple lines, the brightness; it’s translucent and colourful nature as well as for the technical challenges. With it I hope to create objects that evoke laughter and wonder in order to lighten the heart.
