Crista Matteson

Crista Matteson’s love of story-telling teamed with her keen observations of the natural world fuel her artistic vision. Her narrative sculptures are constructed with kiln cast glass, cast bronze, and ceramic mediums. Ever ephemeral flora and fauna are often gathered from Matteson’s own world, and cast into unconventional places, adorning, engaging, or emerging from her featured characters.

Matteson’s professional roots continue to inform her work; beginning her career as a costume designer, she received her BFA in textiles from the California College of Art in San Francisco. Since then her disciplined pursuit of learning has never ceased. Having won a myriad of awards and scholarships in recent years, Matteson has had to the opportunity to study both glass and metalworking at the Pratt Fine Art Center, as well as participate in the Sculpture Atelier Program at Gage Academy of Art. Matteson’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the United States.
