Curtiss Brock was born May 6, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He arrived at the Joe L. Evins Appalachian Center for Crafts in 1981 to study under David Huchthausen. For the next 10 years, he worked at the Center in about every capacity possible; from student, to maintenance man, to dish washer, to studio manager, and finally graduate assistant and faculty member. Once Curt became the head of the glass program, he radically changed the philosophy of the program. The emphasis now being that the core curriculum would focus on glass blowing and developing a strong foundation of glass blowing skills. This as well as a clear understanding of the history of glass and its relationship to the current work being made in the studio glass movement.
